Teresa Torres
Product coach, consultant, speaker, and author. Founder of Product Talk Academy, where she has trained approximately 11,000 product managers. Author of Continuous Discovery Habits — the most recommended book in Lenny Rachitsky’s newsletter Slack community. Known for the opportunity solution tree framework and for systematising story-based customer interviewing as a weekly team habit.
Key ideas
- Opportunity solution tree: outcome → opportunity space (experience-map-structured) → solutions → assumption tests. Keeping the opportunity space in problem language is the central discipline.
- Story-based interviewing: anchor questions in a recent specific instance; use “what happened next?” to collect the full timeline. Stated preferences are unreliable; stories are not.
- Continuous discovery: discovery and delivery run in parallel always — not in phases. One interview a week is enough to build the habit.
- Product trio: PM + designer + engineer decide together from shared understanding; disagreement means an option is missing, not that someone should win.
- Assumption testing: decompose solutions into assumptions; test cheaply and in parallel across multiple candidate solutions.
