Sundar Pichai
CEO of Google and Alphabet. Grew up in Chennai, India, in a household with no running water and a five-year wait for a telephone — an upbringing he credits with a visceral, first-hand understanding of how technology changes lives. Joined Google in 2004; became CEO in 2015. Led the development of Chrome, championed Android, and oversaw the merger of Google Brain and DeepMind into Google DeepMind. Argues that AI will prove more transformative than fire or electricity, that scaling laws are holding, and that p(doom) is partially self-moderating because a genuinely high probability of catastrophe would focus all of humanity on preventing it.
