Mayur Kamat

Mayur Kamat is Chief Product Officer at N26. Before N26 he was Global Head of Product at Binance (where the company grew from near-zero to $400B in assets under management in five years) and VP Product at Agoda, a Booking Holdings company.

At Binance he had 55 direct reports into CZ and ran 11pm daily leadership calls including weekends. He was the first PM for Google Hangouts (which invented WebRTC and still failed) and spent time at Agoda learning compounding growth optimisation — the model behind Booking.com’s growth from $10B to $170B on the same inventory.

Key ideas

  • Strategy as experimentation: product strategy is overrated as a planning exercise. The most valuable question is how fast you can get from hypothesis to data.
  • Four career acceleration factors: (1) join a fast-growing company; (2) optimise for strengths; (3) do not optimise for comp early; (4) decide on the C-level path and optimise for it directly.
  • Company constraints vs. product constraints: certain companies cannot win in certain domains regardless of product quality (Hangouts).
  • The moving-desk principle: where a leader physically puts their attention signals what the organisation values.
