Lenny Rachitsky

Lenny Rachitsky is the creator of Lenny’s Newsletter and the host of Lenny’s Podcast. He was previously a product manager and entrepreneur at Airbnb, where he worked on growth and supply. He is married to Michelle Rial.

He began writing Lenny’s Newsletter in 2019 from the Joshua Tree desert during a retreat, publishing a long-form piece on how the best companies grow. The newsletter reached critical mass on Substack before expanding into a podcast that became one of the most listened-to product management resources.

Key ideas

  • Indiana Jones boulder: his metaphor for the point of no return in a project — the moment when momentum makes stopping harder than continuing. Applied to the newsletter decision: once he told people he was doing it, it became real.
  • Lindy effect applied to content: content that has aged well keeps ageing well. Early newsletter pieces on company growth and PM frameworks have retained relevance for years.
  • Building in public: sharing process, numbers, and failures alongside polished output. The newsletter’s growth was documented openly, which became part of its identity.
  • Product Pass fraud attack: the newsletter’s paid subscription system was targeted by a fraud attack; he wrote about handling it openly.
