Farhan Thawar

VP and Head of Engineering at Shopify. Leads a large engineering organisation; works closely with CEO Toby Lütke on engineering culture, process design, and technical strategy. Prior roles include engineering leadership positions at several startups. Grew up writing code for Atari computers in Canada; built his first company in university.

Known for advocating pair programming as an underutilised management tool, for running Shopify’s Meetingageddon (annual deletion of all recurring meetings with three or more internal participants), and for the Delete Code Club (hack days oriented around removing code rather than adding it).
